What Am I Reading?

Hello! Well, this week was, uh, a little different then perhaps I let on on here… You see, last Saturday, my Mum and I flew 6000+ km across the ocean to the west coast of the US. The reason for this is that I’m looking at universities over here. Aaaand, the reason I didn’t tell y’all about it on here beforehand is because our coming was a surprise to our family that lives over here! So my Mum and I just turned up at my grandparent’s door and they were so surprised! Their faces were so funny, haha! 😀 So, my week has been rather busy with college visits and spending time with family and whatnot (I fly back to England on Tuesday). All that to say, I haven’t got my act together and written up my reviews for my top books of January. Of course. 😀 #nextweek. Instead, I’ve come up with a new idea for a post detailing the books I’m currently reading and giving an explanation about each. And this post is aptly entitled: What Am I Reading? 😀 So, let’s get onto it!

For Devotions

The Bible: Well of course. I’m always reading this. I’m currently reading Numbers and Psalms.

Authentic Beauty: Leslie Ludy is such a good author, and this book’s message is spot on.

Heaven: I really need to pick this one back up again after not touching it for much too long. But it was/is a really edifying read!

Ivanhoe: Reading this for my English class, and loving it so far! Who knew English history could be so interesting?

English Literature for Boys and Girls: Also reading this for my English class as a supplementary text. It’s pretty interesting – lots of information about English literature. (what else? haha :D)

The Age of Chivalry: Aaaand I’m reading this for my English class too. Nothing exceptional – just lots of stories about King Arthur and suchlike…

Mere Christianity: I’ve just started this for a class at my homeschool co-op. I’m not very far in, but I’m super excited to dig into it!

Understanding the Times – A Survey of Competing Worldviews: I’m doing the course that goes with this book this year, and man alive is it good! Seriously it’s so incredibly fascinating and helpful and definitely one of the best books I’ve read for school ever.

The Mystery of History – Wars of Independence to Modern Times: This is my history textbook for this year, and this is the 4th year I’ve used this curriculum. As a history nerd, this book delights my heart. Plus, it’s the best history curriculum I’ve ever done, so that’s a bonus. 😀

For Pleasure:

The Lord of the Rings: My Dad is reading this out loud to my sister and I currently. I’ve never read them before (I know, horrors!!) but I’m really enjoying it. I can see now why people rave over Tolkien’s writing!

Many Waters: I actually haven’t started this yet, but as it’s next on my TBR, and my pleasure reading is kind of sparse at the moment, I figured I would throw it in. I’ve loved L’Engle’s time quintet so far, and I’m excited to continue reading them!

So there we are – all the books I’m reading at the moment! Have you read any of them? What books are you reading at the moment?

  1. I didn’t know about the book “Many Waters,” Hannah. And I LOVE Mystery of History. We finished homeschooling before the last volume came out. Glad you are having a wonderful time in the US!

    1. Thank you, I did have a really lovely time! As for LoTR… well I’d kinda been put off by it’s hugeness for a long time, but as we’re reading it out loud together it’s much less daunting! And I’m actually really enjoying it. So I’d definitely recommend giving it another go… 😉
