Poem – A Defining Love

Hi there, welcome back! This week has been a rather momentous one for me in several different ways… Here’s why!

  • I reached 100 subscribers on The Way of Delight!! Wow, I honestly never thought I could do that in the amount of time I’ve been blogging… I’m quite a newbie to the blogging world, so 100 subscribers in 10 months is pretty exciting for me!! I want to thank each and every one of my subscribers who helped make this dream a reality for me – the fact that you read what I write each week and interact with me here on my blog really does make me so very happy! 🙂
  • Real live actual snow fell from the sky and stuck to the ground! Now this may not sound momentous to you, but guys listen… We haven’t had proper snow where I live for 6 years. 6 years!! So the fact that we had a rather heavy snowfall that actually stuck around for a couple days was amazing! And it was so fun! My family and I went sledding and built snow ramps and went for late night walks in the snow and just generally revelled in the cold, white stuff. After all, it’s not likely to come again any time soon, so we had to get as much time in it while it lasted! 😀
  • I turned 17! Which is just weird. 😀 It seems very official and old and I honestly can’t believe that time has moved this fast… 16 was such a wonderful year for me, and I’m really looking forward to see what God has ahead for me in my 17th year. My actual birthday celebrations were slightly dampened by the heavy snow we had, but the snow just made it more memorable! And I went to see The Greatest Showman today (which was SO GOOD!)  as well has having a lovely celebratory dinner with family. So my heart is happy tonight because my family is the best and God is so good – I’m just so very grateful!

So yes, this week has been pretty momentous for me as you can probably tell… 😀 But now let’s get onto the actual purpose of this post – sharing some writing! Today I have a poem for you that I wrote last September. It was based on a Pinterest prompt (good ol’ faithful Pinterest! :D), but as usual my imagination took the reigns and galloped where it wished… I hope you enjoy! 🙂

Her heart was made of gold

Her soul was filled with stardust

Her feet were ever dancing

Her eyes were ever searching

For the beauty she saw

in everything

Her smile was made of palpable delight

Her lips spilled over with wisdom

Her mouth was ever singing

Her heart was ever overflowing

With the love

That filled her

She was like a sunbeam

Piercing a room of shadows

A clear note of music

Playing above the din of humanity

She threw kindness

Like confetti

Her joy bubbled

Like a pure fountain

When you saw her

You remembered her

Her smile was impressed upon your heart

When she spoke

You listened

Her wise words were stamped upon your mind

Something about her

The way she walked like she was dancing

The way she smiled with genuine joy

The way she spoke with wisdom beyond her years

The way that love for life and others

Just spilled out of her

Made her memorable

I asked her once

“Why are you different

than all the rest?”

“Why does love overflow from you?”

She smiled that golden smile

And replied

“Because I’ve been filled

With the most glorious love of all.

And it’s changed me completely”

Curious, I asked

“What love?”

She looked at me

With joy sparkling in her eyes

And simply replied

“The love of Jesus.”

I’ve never forgotten that girl.

The way she walked

And talked

And smiled

And I’ve never forgotten

How love spilled out from her

In every move she made

That love had changed her

I could see it

And maybe

Just maybe

It has begun

To change me too.

I wrote this poem partly out of experiences I’ve had with people that have been radically changed by Jesus’ love, and partly out of a prayer that people will see that same love spilling from me. I hope this poem encourages you this week! 🙂
