March Delights

I don’t know about you, but March has been insane for me. We’re barely two weeks in, and somehow it already feels like I’ve lived a couple of months worth of highs and lows in the past 14 days! Particularly in the past 72 hours with the whole Covid-19 pandemic affecting my area, it’s been hard to see the good in life through all the stress of the current circumstances.

However, though life is stressful and crazy and the future is scary, I am being constantly reminded that God is oh so good through it all! He is faithful and in control and what a privilege it is to put everything into his hands and trust his plan. Today I am choosing to see the good in the midst of stress – to focus on the delights that this month has brought me instead of being overwhelmed by the craziness. And I thought that I would share some of these delights with you! So may I give to you… March delights:

  • Celebrating my 19th birthday with video chats with family, ice cream and bookstore wanderings, Polaroid pictures and friends and community worship.
  • Mail that brings letters and drawings from my little sisters and cards from my Mama – little tastes of home sent with love from 5000 miles away.
  • Trees blossoming pink and white and green all around campus – bursts of color for the first time since the flames of Autumn faded.

  • Sunshine! Oh so much sunshine. It has warmed my heart and body and brought with it picnics and dresses and afternoon naps in puddles of warmth.
  • Dancing with friends at Spring Formal, all dressed up and laughing and crazy photo booth pictures and dancing some more.
  • Time change that has brought lighter evenings with gorgeous sunsets streaking the sky to feast our eyes on during dinner.
  • Naps. Lots of naps. Need I say more? 😀

  • Extended deadlines for projects and being productive and conversations with professors and classmates about random but important topics like female oppression and election – what a blessing this university life is!
  • Did I mention just how much sunshine delights my soul? After a winter of rain and early darkness, it feels like the brightness of the sun is breathing new life into me!
  • Late night conversations with ice cream and laughter and cuddle puddles galore.
  • Waking up to find that a random snowstorm had left the world covered in white. And then it melted by lunchtime leaving the world sunny and blooming once again.

  • Hearing that I’ve been hired to do a leadership job on campus next year. I get to do what I love to do and would want to do even without being hired – and now I get paid for it! How awesome is that?!
  • My sister visiting campus and getting to finally see what my life over in this corner of the world is really like. And being able to hug her whenever I want. My heart is warmed by her presence.

And that’s just a little glimpse into the delights that this crazy month has brought me! Whatever you may be going through right now, I hope this has encouraged you to see the good in your circumstances. God is so good, and I’m grateful to experience his graciousness every day!

What have been some of the delights that March has brought to you? I’d love to hear about them!

See You Next Year…

Hey there! I’m writing this from the lovely, albeit wet and soggy, country of England. Yes, that’s right, I’m home safe and sound! It’s such a joy to be back home with the family, and I’ve been soaking it all up this past week.

In the spirit of resting and taking a break, I’ve decided that I’ll be taking a break from posting here on my blog for the rest of the year (all 10 days of it. :D). I’ll be back in the new year (and new decade!) with fresh content to share with you all. It’s hard to believe that this blog is already 2.5 years old – where does the time go?! I’m excited to continue on this blogging journey with you all as we move into the future together. 🙂

May the rest of your 2019 be filled with joy, laughter, rest and peace. Merry Christmas!

June Mood

Already a week has flown by and I’m in denial – how does time move so quickly?? It seems it was just yesterday that I was deep in ‘Mark Drama’ mode (which was absolutely amazing btw and I’m very sad it’s over and done with) and now it’s been a week since it all. Sheesh…  Can time slow down already?

Anyhow… time never listens to me and so I’m back here again with another blog post. xD I’m now deep into ‘you’ve got one week before you graduate so stress out like crazy’ mode, which isn’t exactly fun. But who wants to hear about my stress? Not me hehe. So today I just wrote up a bunch of things that I’ve loved over this past week… It’s not exactly a poem – more of a sort of poetic sounding list of June aesthetics. 😀 Focusing on the good instead of the bad is a good practice when you’re stressed out. So here’s my intentionally positive poetic list ‘thing’ about why I love June. Enjoy. 😀

Waking up with sun slanting through the blinds.

Belting out songs, not caring who hears.

Sweaty bear hugs from curly headed little girls.

The lone hum of a fly buzzing over a sinkful of dishes.

Praying with people united in heart and seeing God move in answer.

Vases full of dying roses perched on windowsills.

Sun warmed air sitting softly on the grass.

Raspberries and ice cream, because why not?

Open doors, open windows – letting in the breeze.

Reading on the shade and sun-streaked trampoline.

Wheat waving and whispering in golden, growing fields.

Fingerfuls of cookie dough snuck from a full mixing bowl

Being reminded of the strength and compassion of Jesus afresh.

That dusky blue of a fading summer evening.

Laughter and screams as water balloons ricochet between friends.

Writing poetry in the orange glow of a 1 am street light.

Nostalgia for summers past and summers yet to be…

In the end, life is good because God is good and he gives such good gifts to his children. This life that we live is a privilege, so let’s count our blessings!

What ‘June things’ have you been loving recently? Has summer officially started for you yet, or are you still in the depths of school like I am?

Liebster Award

Hey guys! Ok, first big announcement… THE SUN IS OUT. If you happen to live in the UK right now, this is huge because it’s been non stop rainy and dreary and grey and awful seemingly since June began. So the fact that the sun is actually showing its face for 30 minutes is rather momentous.

That’s it for the announcements. xD The fact that the sun shining is literally the biggest thing that’s happened all week is slightly sad hehe. Actually the week has been fine and there have been many enjoyable bits. However most of it has been overshadowed by said rain, as well as mountains of stress as my graduation deadline is looming ever larger. It’s 3 weeks from today, and that is simultaneously the most exciting and the most terrifying thing ever.

Anyways, I’m sure you’d much rather me stop rambling about rain and graduation and get on with my post for today…. 😀 I’ve decided to break up the pattern of poetry that’s been going on recently around here, and have fun with a tag/award/thing… Sooo, let’s do it!

Right, so I’ve been nominated by Anita from A Prairie Girl’s Pen for the Liebster Award. The Liebster Award is a fun little thing that basically means you get to know bloggers a little bit more and discover fun new blogs. It’s great! 😀 Thanks so much for the nomination, Anita! 🙂

Here’s how it’s meant to go down…

The Rules

  1. Thank the blogger who nominated you. (done! :D)
  2. Display your award. (I have neither the time nor the talent to create my own award graphic, so you’re going to have to imagine one xD)
  3. Answer the questions you were asked.
  4. Nominate 5 other bloggers.
  5. Ask 6 new questions.
  6. Let our nominees know they were nominated and give them a link to your post.

My Questions from Anita

  1. What is the first book that truly inspired you in your walk with the Lord?

To be very honest, I can’t remember exactly… My childhood was absolutely saturated with amazing books, many of which encouraged me in my faith and spurred me on to love Jesus more. But since I can’t just leave my answer at that, I will just highlight one series of books called Christian Heroes: Then and Now. As a kid I absolutely loved these books. We were given practically the whole series (which is like 40 odd books) when I was… idk… probably about 10, and man, are they good! Learning about the lives of so many heroes of my faith really inspired me when I read them. This series was actually quite instrumental in solidifying my desire to be a missionary one day, as I was able to devour many stories of missionaries that have served God over the years. This series still holds a special place in my heart and I really recommend it!

2. What is the longest Bible passage you have ever memorized?

I think that would probably have to be Psalm 139…? I’ve been really blessed to have been encouraged to memorize many Bible passages over the course of my life. I know a bunch of Psalms off by heart, as well as quite a few passages from Paul’s epistles and other books. But I think the longest verse wise would have to be Psalm 139 (it’s a great psalm btw! xD)

3. Who are three bloggers that you admire?

Hmmmm…. how about:

  • Lydia from Noveltea – because her book reviews are super well done, her reading lifestyle posts are so fun and I just love hearing about her author-ly life in all its facets. 🙂
  • Mrs Del Boccio from Jarm Del Boccio – because she’s super consistent and I’ve loved following along on her debut author journey!
  • Essie from Essie Writes Poetry – because her poetry is freaking amazing and she’s writing 365 poems THIS year and she’s absolutely killing itttt!

4. What is one of your biggest dreams?

I have a lot of dreams. xD But if if I were to combine them all into a cohesive picture it would look a lot like…. living in a whimsical home beside the ocean with a nestful of children, writing books and poetry in my spare time and serving the God I love full time in whatever situation he places me in. It’s a good dream. 🙂

5. Are you a coffee lover? If so, what is your favorite coffee shop? If not, what is your favorite drink?

I’m afraid I’m going to have to drop the small bomb that I am not a coffee lover. I know. It’s sad. I hugely enjoy the smell of coffee and the aura of coffee shops, don’t get me wrong. But just don’t like the taste of it. So since I failed that coffee question, I’ll go for the next one… xD And in all honesty, my favourite drink is water. Water is life, water is health, water is goodness. And I like it. xD So there ya go. (yes I’m boring like that sorry)

At this point I should be nominating people… Unfortunately, I don’t have a very wide circle of blogging acquaintances, and I just tagged most of the ones I do have in the book lover tag. So in order to avoid being annoying I’m just going to be slightly boring (again) and nominate…

Anyone who would like to answer my questions! 😀

Which questions you might be asking….?
These questions! xD

  1. What’s the inspiration behind your blog’s name?
  2. If you had to choose 1 color to represent your personality, what would it be and why?
  3. What is the best non-fiction book you’ve read in the last year?
  4. What song have you have had on repeat recently?
  5. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
  6. What fictional character are you most like?

So if you would like to answer these questions, please, please consider yourself nominated! And let me know if you answer them – I’d love to read them! 🙂

That’s it for today! Now back to the daily grind of endless science and English… See ya next week! 😉

Let’s chat in the comments! I’d love to hear your answers to any of my questions. 🙂

Merry Christmas! + A Break

Hello to all my lovely readers! Today I’m going to be deviating from my usual schedule in order to do two things…

  1. I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas! I pray this next week is a season of joy and peace for you, as we celebrate the amazing truth that our God has come down to earth to become one of us.
  2. This is to announce that I am going to be taking this week and next week off from blogging in order to spend quality time with my family over this Christmas break. I will be back here on the first Saturday of 2019!

So that’s that! I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas, and I’m looking forward to sharing some more writing with you in the New Year. 🙂
