Hey guys! It’s a gloriously sunny and warm Saturday where I am, and I’m excited to be back here again. It’s now week 3 of NaPoWriMo, which means that after today I will officially be 2/3 of the way through this challenge! Crazy, I know…. 😀
This week has been a bit more complicated writing wise, as I’ve been super, super busy – 31 hours clocked in at work, along with studying and taking my driving theory test, preparing for a family holiday on Monday, and dealing with various and sundry other random things like a rather large fire at work, shopping and having guests over…. (wow what a run-on sentence :D) Needless to say, I struggled a bit to keep the writing flowing. Especially after a long, sometimes stressful day, it was the last thing I wanted to do – to sit down and get my brain in ‘writing gear’. However, I still managed to make it happen!
I do wonder if my writing quality suffered though… I do think that the exhaustion and busyness of the week has played into how well I write. But still, I have 19, soon to be 20 poems under my belt – so at least the writing is coming! It’s going to be interesting next week as my family embarks on a 3 week long vacation around Europe… Something tells me I may be writing poetry in the car. 😀 But hey, changes of scenery should be good, right?
Today I’m going to share with you poem #15 in the line up… It’s (rather unimaginatively) titled ‘Trying to Hide’, and I think you’ll see why after you read it… I hope you enjoy!
Why do you try to hide
your cries of pain behind a plastic smile?
Why do you store
your bitter tears behind brightly shadowed eyes?
Why do you conceal
your broken heart behind a diamond-walled façade?
Why do you try to hide?
I see the pain that leaks out through those diamond cracks and
Smears bright shadows into dark patches of salty sorrow.
I see the pain that drips from those forced smiles and shaky
Façades that waver in the lonely wind.
I see the pain that follows you……
that shadows you….
that is breaking you…..
And I wonder –
Why are you trying to hide?
So that’s that for this week! I’ll be back next week with a post that’s different from my usual NaPoWriMo posts this month… It’s going to be a book review in honour of a friend’s book launch, and I’m excited!
Let’s chat in the comments! What do you think of the poem? Is that something you’ve seen for yourself as well? And if you’re doing NaPoWriMo – how are you finding it?
